D.M. in Clinical Hematology

The department has been running one of the most popular and prestigious DM training programs in Clinical Haematology in the country since 2011. During this 3 year training the fellows are exposed to the entire spectrum of various hematologic disorders.
During the training period, the fellows are rotated in various hematology wards/out patient units of the department, are trained in the consultative hematology services, and also get training in the stem cell transplant and cellular therapy services for both benign and malignant disorders. In addition they are also rotated in the various Hematology laboratories of the institute in the department of hematology, department of pediatric hematology, department of radiotherapy, department of transfusion medicine and nuclear medicine and emergency and outpatient general medicine.
The program also offers a two month national/international externship for the residents where they get an opportunity to train at an institute of their choice nationally or internationally. Through a robust training module that includes group case discussions, journal clubs,seminars, tumor board meetings, marrow rounds, clinicopathologic meets and case conferences, the candidates get an opportunity to train as well as teach at numerous and departmental and inter-departmental platforms.
The candidates have to undertake a compulsory DM Dissertation in the guidance of the experienced mentors/guides. The candidates get ample of opportunities to conduct research work in the field of hemato-oncology. The department provides a congenial platform for the candidates conduct, present and publish their research work at various national and international meetings and conferences.
Admission to the D.M courses is done twice a year for January and July session. The Entrance Examination is conducted through Computer Based Test (CBT) in the month of May/June & November/December the sessions commence from first July and first January respectively each year.The required qualification to compete for the entrance exam is MD Medicine or equivalent

DM in Medical Oncology

The department has started a 3 year DM course in Medical Oncology. Currently the program is open for sponsored and foreign candidates and soon, open seats will also be started. 

The candidates will be trained in evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of various malignancies. The department is involved in multidisciplinary tumor boards with various other partnering departments to provide best care to the patients and best exposure to the trainee candidates.

Apart from management of solid tumors, the candidates doing DM Medical Oncology will also get rotation in bone-marrow transplant and Cellular therapy units  where they have an opportunity to learn to perform various types of hematopoietic stem cell transplants including Haploidentical transplant, Matched unrelated/related donor transplant, Autologous transplants for various disorders. The department is also active in providing CART cell therapy to eligible patients and the candidates can learn about this evolving field of medicine during their training in the department. 

The department has a large research program where a large number of clinical trials and investigator initiated trials are being performed. During the DM course, the trainee will get a first hand experience to be involved in day to day functioning of research work. It will give them a great insight into research methodology and they shall gather sufficient experience to do medical research on their own after completion of the DM program.

Short Term Training in Clinical Hematology/Medical Oncology

Candidates are accepted for short-term attachment for varying periods (maximum up to 6 months). They can only act as observers. The Institute also accepts candidates deputed by W.H.O. for training in various specialties.
